The practical result is clear: Uber Eats performed better across the $20–$40 order band under both defensible ways of valuing a buy-one-get-one-free deal. Grubhub became competitive at $50, when its larger fixed-dollar discounts became widely usable. Below $20, Uber Eats offered usable promotions at more stores, although the matched savings winner depended on how much value a customer actually received from a BOGO.

After excluding rows that did not describe actual promotions, 13 months of historical data contained 272,088 Uber Eats and 48,137 Grubhub real-offer observations. BOGO language appeared in 39.86% of Uber Eats observations and 14.78% of Grubhub observations. Dollar-off language appeared in 68.94% of Grubhub observations, compared with 1.39% on Uber Eats. Uber Eats had 1,169 BOGO offers among 3,309 snapshot offers, a 35.33% share. Grubhub had 120 among 1,572, a 7.63% share. Uber Eats therefore devoted about 4.6 times as much of its deal mix to BOGO.
The more important difference was eligibility. None of the 1,169 Uber Eats BOGOs required a minimum spend. Every one of Grubhub’s 120 BOGOs did, with a $15 median minimum. That gives Uber Eats a structural advantage for smaller baskets: a customer can potentially use its most common promotion without adding items merely to unlock the deal.
A BOGO does not have one fixed dollar value, however. Its value depends on the eligible item and whether the customer genuinely wants two. DealMeal therefore used two methods. The best-case method valued the most expensive pair the basket could accommodate; the conservative method used the store’s median item price when two such items fit within the order total. Deal-eligible Uber Eats items had a $10.90 median price, almost identical to the $10.97 store-wide median across 516 stores, supporting the use of ordinary menu prices for this model.
This is also why the article cannot honestly claim that Uber Eats saves a fixed number of dollars more per order. Grubhub’s larger dollar-off offers come with a higher gate
Grubhub’s fixed-dollar discounts were larger in the structured snapshot. Its median dollar-off offer was $10, based on 714 offers with usable values. Uber Eats’ median was $5 across 793 offers.
The headline discount is only half of the comparison. Grubhub’s median dollar-off minimum was $50, while Uber Eats’ was $30. Grubhub returned $1 of advertised discount per $5 of required spend, compared with $1 per $6 for Uber Eats. That makes Grubhub’s ratio slightly better—but only for a customer who already intended to spend $50.

DealMeal modeled the best priceable promotion at each joined store for food subtotals from $15 to $100. Offers that had not reached their minimum were treated as unusable. The model excluded taxes, tips, service charges, delivery charges, and unquantified promotions, so the values are advertised food-subtotal savings rather than final checkout totals.
The conservative BOGO method shows the central pattern without assuming that every customer optimizes a basket around the most expensive eligible pair.

The savings model used the DealMeal Labs snapshot from August 5, 2026: 3,309 Uber Eats offers and 1,572 Grubhub offers. Offers were joined to menu data for 949 Uber Eats stores and 344 Grubhub stores. The same-restaurant comparison used 92 normalized restaurant names present on both apps. Menu rows were recorded from August 2 through August 5 and could be up to three days older than the offers.
For each tested food subtotal, DealMeal selected the best priceable offer at each store after enforcing its minimum. Dollar-off savings used the structured amount. Percentage savings used the stated percentage and cap. BOGOs used two values: the most expensive affordable pair for the best-case method and the store’s median item price for the conservative method. Ties were reported separately and excluded from win-rate denominators.
The 13-month deal-mix check covered July 13, 2025 through July 2, 2026, spanning 284 Uber Eats observation days and 255 Grubhub days with a real offer. It used 272,088 Uber Eats and 48,137 Grubhub real-offer observations after excluding 52,049 Uber Eats summary rows, 357 Uber Eats no-promotion placeholders, and 14,682 Grubhub no-promotion placeholders. Historical title text supported the promotion-mix comparison, but unequal value-parsing coverage made it unsuitable for comparing savings amounts.
The current savings analysis is a one-day snapshot, not a trend. It models food subtotals; it does not observe actual baskets or completed orders. Taxes, tips, service charges, delivery charges, and final checkout totals were unavailable. The model could price 73.9% of Uber Eats offers and 95.1% of Grubhub offers, so it omits more Uber Eats value, including 187 free-delivery offers. The available data also does not support city-, ZIP-, chain-, deal-duration-, or matched-menu-price conclusions.
